Patrick Steyaert is a co-founder of Okaloa. Together with its partners, Okaloa helps organizations to innovate and change using an integrative approach with Kanban at its foundation. Today we are on the cusp of a new era. Exponential change, driven by disruptive technology, innovation and globalization, has shifted the business landscape into a dancing landscape where everything is in constant flux.

Organizations that are in a leadership position today may well find themselves at the point of greatest despair tomorrow. Survival – let alone success – requires a constant reshaping of competitive advantage while at the same time maintaining a strong identity.

This requires 1) anti-fragility in order to thrive on change, more than just cope with it; and 2) integrative thinking as a way to deal with the paradoxes and contradictions that arise
from being on the edge between order and chaos, stability and change.

Discovery Kanban (DK) is a pragmatic approach for organizations to develop the anti-fragile capabilities that are needed to compete in the dancing landscape. It builds on modern agility – flow thinking based on a cultivated habit of change aligned on direction; it calls for pragmatic leadership – connecting and building on the tension between opposing ideas rather than letting ideas turn into ideologies; and it helps organisations to pursue exponential innovation – execution and innovation do not just co-exist, but actually build on each other.

In this presentation we will sketch out what Discovery Kanban is and why it is important.
