What we’re about
Alamo Python is part of the PyTexas network of Python user groups. We are focused at providing in person training and social events to help grow the San Antonio Python community. We are proud to be a part of the DevSA community of San Antonio technology user groups.
We are aiming to have bi-monthly (every 2 months) social meetups and tech talks. These will be in person. Our tech talks will be aimed at getting hands on with coding techniques, tricks, using packages, and cover the gamut of professional, business, hobby, AI, and game programming. We are also hoping to have an extended meeting once per quarter where will will aim to drill deeper into different programming areas.
We have an online presence on the DevSA Discord Server as well as the PyTexas Discord Server. As part of PyTexas, our members will be introduced to the Austin, Houston and DFW Python user groups as well as the annual PyTexas conference.
We are always looking for local speakers so let us know if you would like to present at one of our events.

Relational or NoSQL? Rows or documents? Join Mike Robellard, Chief Technology Officer at Gather the Family, for a practical, code-driven talk exploring how to build Python applications on both SQL and NoSQL databases.
This intermediate-level session assumes basic Python knowledge and takes you through:
- A side-by-side comparison of SQL and NoSQL databases and when to use each
- A live demo using the Python psycopg2 database adapter to interact with PostgreSQL via raw SQL, including ERD modeling
- A live demo using the Python boto3 AWS SDK to interact with DynamoDB, showcasing a single-table NoSQL design
Whether you're building something new or maintaining a hybrid stack, you'll walk away with a better grasp of how to model your data and write clean, effective Python for both paradigms.
