Hi everyone! Welcome to the Albany Area Kayaking Meetup group!
PLEASE!!! READ THE ENTIRE INTRODUCTION TO THE GROUP BEFORE DECIDING TO JOIN!!!
Our purpose:
To link people with an interest in kayaking, so that we can go out and paddle, talk about paddling, share skills, experiences, places to go and generally have fun.
Who should join:
ANYONE WHO OWNS A KAYAK AND HAS KAYAKING EXPERIENCE!
That experience should entail knowing what your abilities are on the water and being comfortable there (how long you are able to paddle without stopping), how far you can paddle (some of our trips can be 2-3 hours long), some basic knowledge of safety (PFD, whistle, how not to get runover by a boat going 50 mph, etc.), and the ACCEPTANCE OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY-along with the ABILITY TO SWIM if you need to.
When applying for membership with this group you should answer each question in detail or I may DENY your membership request. I also could deny your request based on inexperience or for not OWNING a kayak. Kayaking can be dangerous if you are new to it and none of the people in the group want to be held responsible for inexperienced members. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS BEFORE YOU JOIN!
We want for everyone to have fun and advance their skills so that we can all enjoy the water together!
We encourage you to read up on kayaking in the file section of our meetup group and/or get some books from your local library.
