Meetup Description: Michael ~Assistant - Outdoors/Wildlife-~ Will be running this event.
While winter does not seem to want to end, the water ways in the mountains have started to open up but their is still plenty of snow on the peaks. This trip will be the continuation of the previous Winter landscape's meetup. We will start this time from Lake Louise, travel towards Canmore on Hwy 1A (for those who know the road, yes we will be shooting the famous Morant's Curve) and then back up the Smith Dorren to Kananaskis Lakes and then back to Calgary on Hwy 1A. All stops will of course be time and conditions permitting.
Details: Departure Time: 10:30am on Sunday May 3rd (Please do not be late!) from the Brentwood LRT station (un-needed vehicles can be parked there until we return plus those who don't have a car can still make it)
Maximum # of People: 15, divided into 4 vehicles.
Number of drivers and vehicles (4 door vehicles are preferred) r
equired: 4 please message Michael Stefanyshyn if you are willing to drive so that I can confirm all vehicles a week in advance.
Cost: estimated to be $17 per person (based upon driving 400 km's at $0.17 per km ($0.08 for vehicle maintenance and $0.09 for fuel) divided by 4 people). Final cost will be determined based on actual kilometers traveled.
We will largely be traveling on back highways until nightfall forces us to return via the trans-canada. These roads do include high mountain gravel roads, so if you are willing to drive be aware of the fact that road conditions can change rapidly! Also, it is recommended that all vehicles have a shovel in them just in case but will not be mandatory (I will carry two plus a tow rope). There is also a strong possibility of finding wildlife but that is not the primary purpose of this trip. Things to bring: Camera(s), Tripod, Wide Lenses, Telephoto lenses (optional but useful), warm clothing (mandatory), boots (even though we are not hiking, some shots may require short walks through snow), FRS radios for inter-vehicle communications (I have two and cell phones DO NOT WORK up in the mountains).
Groups will be divided into vehicles based upon experience / comfort level (Advanced shooters with beginners) and camera systems.
Please note, if you confirm yes and do not show-up (or show up late after departure) you will still be expected to cover the car pooling cost of the vehicle you should have been in.
