Welcome to All Things Baroque. The idea of the group is to celebrate Baroque culture in all its forms, including music, art, architecture, theatre and dance (working on food and wine). London was home to men with big hair - Sir Christopher Wren, Westminster boy Henry Purcell  and Georg Friedrich Händel, a German who liked it so much he became a Brit.

We are pretty spoilt for choice as far as Baroque music and art is concerned, although the flamboyant architectural style never took off here in the way it did in continental Europe. Baroque opera and dance are still performed but not on a regular basis like 19th century pieces. We have fellow members who are professionals and specialists in all of these fields so we can learn something and enjoy ourselves at the same time.

All members are welcome to suggest Meetups, providing they are prepared to host them.

Looking forward to seeing you at a Meetup soon.

Immerse yourself in Baroque France at the little known museum of Wallace Collection, set in beautiful Hertford House in Marylebone. It has enough Old Masters to fill several blockbuster exhibitions - no timed ticket (in fact no ticket at all as it's free), no red rope, no crowds and take as many photos as you like. Below is the programme... Learn more

Good restaurant ...Have a meal -you won't be disappointed!
(and, if you have time, Hertford House contains one of the finest collections of Eighteenth Century French art outside Paris!)
See if you can get Bary to pose for a photograph ...as the, so called, Laughing Cavalier.

Orlando Chamber Choir, in which our fellow member Maxime sings, presents a programme of secret Catholic devotional music by William Byrd in its first concert with new director of music Richard Wiberforce. Although prescribed for the country, simple homophonic Protestant music did not apply to Elizabeth Tudor's own services, where both Tallis... Learn more

My Passiontide timing has gone all wrong with St Matthew Passion in February and St John Passion in May. It has been said that St John is easier on the ear than St Matthew. Don't take it as read - come and decide for yourself. Chamber choir Collegium Musicum of London is performing this other surviving Bach Passion, with soloists and... Learn more
