Shark's Cove Potluck and Snorkeling - Day on the northshore!

Spend the day at the beach, snorkeling, eating, drinking and being merry!

Summer is the best time to snorkel on the north shore and with it's calm and flat waters, let's go snorkeling and spend day at Shark's Cove!

Bring your snorkel gear, sunblock, beach chairs, food to share, drinks to consume etc and most importantly, WATER/ROCK SHOES cause the lava rocks HURT!

Got a secret little spot we can explore the caves...come out and join us for some fun! if you're not a great swimmer bring a snorkel or a floatie, the waters are calm this time of year, so come out and get yourself used to the waters.

"Why do they call it Shark's Cove?" Most of the time, the explanation includes "It looks like a shark took a bite out of the land," or "There is a rock that looks like a shark fin when viewed from off shore".
Much to the relief of some divers and disappointment of others, I've never seen a shark at shark's cove.
However this summer we have been fortunate enough to have a couple white tip reef sharks make the cove their daily sleeping spot. The sandy bottom canyons and caverns make an ideal location for white tips to sleep the day away.
The most beneficial aspect of this lucky summer is new divers are able to experience first hand that white tip sharks are nothing to be afraid of. Divers are able to have up close and personal interactions with them with little concern for loss of limbs. In fact the white tips just want to sleep and usually swim away, returning only after the divers have left. These sharks seem to be a bit more comfortable around humans, so let's go play!

We usually do potluck ATO Ohana style so bring something to share with others, and byob. See ya soon!
