Pontatoc Canyon to Ventana Canyon

December is the best month for exploring the Front Range of the Catalinas: the weather isn't too hot and the lambing season hasn't started so we can go off trail. This is one of of my favorite hikes in the Catalinas - a STRENUOUS hike to connect Pontatoc Canyon to Ventana Canyon. We'll visit Gorp Peak along the way.
3-4 miles of this adventure will be off-trail bushwhacking amongst shindaggers, manzanita, and other pokey shrubbery. Approximately 14 miles/5000 ft. We will have to organize car shuttle so we will all meet at the Ventana Canyon trailhead and then take a car or two over to the Finger Rock trailhead.
Hike at your own risk.

This was a great hike but between the miles and the mild bush-wacking it was about my limit. Gorp Peak had an amazing view. Joel and Belinda are excellent trip leaders. never got lost and the pace made for plenty of oooohing and ahhiing time on the peaks.

Just a reminder to bring plenty of liquids tomorrow: 4-5 liters and a headlamp. Plan to leave Ventana promptly at 6:30

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
