This group is for the serious ABD Owner who just loves, fancies, and respects the breed, the Breeder who strives to improve on and doesn't abuse the breed, the Trainer who is as stubborn as some of the breed, the new perspective buyer who has been curious about and can't wait to purchase the breed, the enthusiast who would just like to know more about the breed, and the researcher who maintains the integrity of the breed.
Although, this group is primarily for the American Bulldog Owner, we welcome all Bully types from the smaller English Bulldog (West Champ's High Hopes) to which the ABD was bred back from, to the American Pit Bull Terrier its very distant Cousin .
Why I created this group:
The reason I created this group was because of my love for the breed and wanted others who lived within the Philadelphia and tri-state area who has an affinity for the animal to meet up with each other to learn, research, compare & contrast their own American Bulldog, in addition discuss and teach others about the history of the breed. I grew interested in the American Bulldog after seeing a gentlemen walking his dog and thinking to myself, what kind of dog it was. I wondered; what was this animal that at first glance looked like an English bulldog yet dwarfed it in size. It was as muscular as a Bullmastiff but, clearly was a completely different animal. After asking around, I was told it was an American bulldog. Needles to say that started my infatuation and love for the breed.
I was soo excited, too excited in fact that I decided at that point I just had to own one. Prematurely, I ran out and just purchased the first puppy that I could find which proved to be a mistake that taught me to research and understand what I actually was buying. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love Gabanna (that’s my ABD name), as she is the queen of the house however, as she grew I noticed that she did not have the appearance of the dog I saw that day. Ooh well, Gabanna’s here to stay, but it made me do the research that I should have done in the first place. After hundreds of hours on the internet and a few books later, I started to understand what an ABD actually was, and the profound history that developed the beloved breed.
I found that there were 5 recognized types of the ABD and that its history dated as far back as the 17th century. I learned, the reason it appeared to look like an English bulldog is because in fact, the bullie-ness of the look developed out of the bulldog. I learned that the original American Bulldog almost became extinct if it wasn’t for the hard work and do diligence of men like John D. Johnson (RIP), & Alan Scott.
I now own 3 more dogs, with a great pedigree and look forward in breeding and following the traditions of producing great quality dogs with good health, great confirmation, agility, temperament, and the protective nature the dog was born to have.
And that is the reason why I created this meetup group. This group is for ADB lovers, breeders, enthusiast, and owners to share stories, their research, and educate existing and future owners of the breed. My goal is to bring more visibility to the breed and support those of us who already own them. We will have forums, workshops, dialogues, and of course, meetups for our beloved ABD.
One last thing, This is for the lovers of the breed so if your into over breeding, neglecting, and or fighting your dogs, this is the wrong group for you, so keep it moving!!!!
