Our speaker this month is Ames IT Collaborative CoFounder, Allen Bierbaum, VP Technology for Priority5.
ABOUT THE PRESENTATION:
Allen will discuss the engineering processes and architecture that allow P5 to make use of a wide variety of open source software in combination with P5's technology to rapidly deliver innovative solutions to challenging problems.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Dr. Allen Bierbaum is VP - Technology for Priority 5 where he leads their engineering team. Priority 5 builds common operating picture software used by government and commercial agencies such as the Department of Defense, FEMA, state fusion centers, and other groups. The tools aggregate and visualize information from a wide variety of data sources and simulations in real-time.

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION:
Robert Kluin, Beau Lyddon, and Mike Wesner will present "Google AppEngine - How to easily create a site that scales to support thousands of users.". This talk will describe the basics of Google AppEngine and show how, with little effort, you can build a moderately complex site that scales automatically to support the most demanding applications. This talk will demonstrate the core principles of AppEngine and will also discuss some of the best practices learned by WebFilings over the past three years.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Robert Kluin is a frequent contributor on the AppEngine mailing list and message boards and is extremely active in the community. He was "knighted" by Google at a recent Google event and is well known by the AppEngine team and community.
Beau Lyddon is a senior developer on the WebFilings server team and is one of our most avid python developers. He helped lead our move from SVN to GitHub and is a contributor to numerous GitHub projects.
Mike Wesner is a senior architect on the WebFilings server team and was the original architect and author of our Google App Engine platform. Before WebFilings he also had extensive experience at Netscape / AOL working on the django - python stack and is an avid python developer.

Please RSVP (specify if you prefer vegetarian option) for both events via the link provided so we have an idea of how much food to provide. We will provide lunch for the Ames IT Collaborative, and also food, beer and soda for the evening meeting.

The time was thoroughly enjoyable. It was fun seeing what things Priority 5 was doing with Python, and hearing about their use of the Twisted framework.

In addition to our broadcast, we will also include a brief appearance by the chairman of the Python Software Foundation, Steve Holden, and upcoming chairman, Van Lindberg.
In a recent update, we have also learned that Guido Van Rossum, a Google Employee and author of the Python programming language will plan to drop into the hangout for a brief appearance.
