Zombie Apocalypse Part 1!

Amsterdam's Riak meet-up is back and this time we're at Trifork.

This month we're doing something totally new and exciting:

Bring your laptop to take part!

So, here's how the evening will unfold:

Intro to Riak, whilst eating pizza: a ten minute overview, for anyone new to Riak.

Zombie Apocalypse Part 1: prepare to halt the spread of a zombie infection, using only Riak to search through a data set. This month we'll get set up, ready to tackle the data next month.

Pub: we'll head to the pub for a few beers courtesy of Basho.

Tell your friends to come along to take part in solving the zombie apocalypse! Make sure they sign up here, to avoid over-booking.

Is that csv with test data available somewhere?

Very good meetup ... nice to have hands experience of building the environment from scratch! Previously I have been working off a vagrant build (https://github.com/codingbynumbers/seven-databases).

Definitely looking forward to getting further into riak and processing/linking/indexing some data... I think we are doing some map reduce next time?

I would have been perfectly happy with working on pre-configured amazon nodes from the start, instead of spending 2 hours copying source compilation commands off the Riak documentation page. I have high expectations of the next meeting though. Bring on the zombies!

The workshop half of Part 1 seemed a little redundant. We have all compiled and installed linux packages countless times before. I'd skip this part and just give a handout with the installation details.

We agree with you, but you would be surprised how many have not. We are certainly cutting out the need for you to download dependencies.

Does anyone know if I can park at Trifork? Or should I look for a parking garage?

Hi guys, sorry, I didn't see it was a two month version, and I probably won't be able to make it next time, and doing only half a Apocalypse is asking for trouble!

Hey Maarten. I'm no longer able to attend, so I've changed my RSVP, which frees up a slot!
