Talk: Text wrangling and word smithing

This talk covers multiple methods of querying text with MongoDB. From simple string and regexp matching, to full text search indexes. The talk will cover stemming, tokenization and issues while sorting multiple languages. We will look at techniques for search queries that deal with multiple locales following Unicode specifications. Lastly, we will also look at how to get our data into Elastic Search as a dedicated engine for doing full text search with automatic replication.

Speaker: Derick Rethans

Interesting talk! Thanks. As a side note, I was surprised about PHP's Collation classes actually, and their ability to sort properly based on locale. I dove into the source code and discovered PHP basically uses this stuff from the "ICU project". I found this link for others who are also curious about it: It explains it quite nicely

Also, I want to start building a hackathon community, to promote regular hackathons to meet new people, share new ideas and create awsome new things. For this I started the Facebook community and I am planning on keeping an online calendar at If you like hackathons, please join the Facebook. If you'd like to help out with the calendar, please notify me.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
