  • Where we go is really weather dependent. Right now it's scheduled to snow Friday and Saturday. The decision will be made by Saturday, but the options are:

--Rabbit Creek Trailhead to Rabbit Lake/McHugh Lake (1,000 feet elevation gain, 10-12 miles roundtrip)--If roads are in good condition

--Prospects Heights Trailhead out toward Willawa Lakes, 1,000 feet elevation gain, and up to 14 miles roundtrip--if road conditions aren't so good

So how long is this really going to be? Trying to decide what size pack to pack . . . And I have snowshoes to use, but might it be easier to just hike (I've never snowshoed)?

It looks like we lost Kelly! If you want to bail, you're more than welcome to! I don't want to risk it driving up DeArmoun, so I will just go to Prospect Heights and take Middlefork over to Willawa Lakes. I've never been that way before. I'm thinking snowshoes will be a good idea...even though there is probably a packed trail, it just snowed 2 inches, and it's probably not very well defined. So stepping off of it leads to a 2 foot drop in the snow? I'm actually not sure how much it has snowed up there in total this year! I'm thinking boots will be just fine!
