Prospect Heights - Hillside Walkabout

Let's hike some of the local trails around Prospect Heights, like Golden Grass, South Rim, Denali View, Panorama View, etc. Hopefully we can catch a nice sunset on our return route. This hike will be about 5-6 miles, with less than 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Plan to be out about 3 hours.

Current forecast is sunny and cold with winds 10-20 mph, so be prepared. If the wind is bothersome we'll adjust our route to stay in the trees and reduce the wind chill factor. I doubt we'll need ice-grippers, but I'll carry mine in case they're needed.

Bring: Cold weather boots and clothing, mittens, thermos of hot drink, etc.

Driving Directions: From Hillside Dr: east (uphill) on Upper O’Malley Rd, left on Prospect Dr, left on Sidorof Ln, right into trailhead entrance.

Dogs: OK. Bring scoop bags, and leash for control during wildlife encounters.

Super fast trail conditions, so we continued on out to Blueberry Hollow. Everyone was well-prepared for the cold weather, and skies were clear so we saw the sunset. Hard to beat a day like today!

THE ANCHORAGE ADVENTURERS

Many of our events require strong safety awareness, good personal fitness, intermediate/advanced skills, and quality outdoor gear. These activities are inherently dangerous. Our core participants are older adults (age thirty and up) with a fair amount of outdoor experience. We are not geared toward beginners or those just thinking about getting fit. Our events are generally not suitable for children.

You are fully responsible for yourself at all times. Our volunteer organizers and hosts are not guides or tour leaders. These events are like private outings with your friends, so contribute your ideas, expect the same risks, and take all necessary precautions. You are expected to familiarize yourself with the local trailheads, trip routes, terrain, weather, and hazards. For help, see: Outdoor Recreation Links.

GUIDELINES

Please read the full description before signing up for an event. If you invite guests, verify that they have the appropriate gear, skills, and level of fitness.
If you RSVP 'Yes', we expect you to attend. If your plans change, please try to switch your RSVP to 'No' in a timely manner. Be considerate: don't RSVP 'Yes' for size-limited events if you are unlikely to attend.
We encourage all to participate. Inactive members may be removed.
This is not a dating site. If you engage in unwanted advances to our members, you will be removed.
Firearms are expressly FORBIDDEN on any Adventurers outing. Anyone carrying a firearm at an AA event will be banned from the group.
Helmets are required on all bicycle rides.
Vehicle break-ins can happen at any trailhead, so take precautions.
