Wearables, the Internet of Things and Micro Applications

Details

I'm very happy to announce that we will have Wolf Paulus of Intuit (and the San Diego Android Developers Group) presenting to us on Wearables, Internet of Things and Micro Applications.

Wolf Paulus is an internationally experienced software developer and innovator, focusing on Android, embedded/mobile devices, and open source technologies. In his daytime job he helps to accelerate the discovery and adoption of emerging mobile technologies. Before joining Intuit, he was the Sr. Mobile Architect at HP, developing solutions, to deliver a compelling mobile print experience and a Distinguished Engineer at Motorola, working on the Google Android platform.

Here's a description from Wolf on his presentation:

Micro Service / Micro Applications, and "the data finds you" are the next big platform shift and wearables and the IoT are right in he middle of it. If you think about it, it also means you have to push information to your user, who may receive it on a very constrained device, like an Android Wear watch, which he cannot really type on, but can speak to, since it has a microphone and Google has an incredible speech recognizer …

Long story short, I will cover some very exciting technologies like “Wearables”, "Push Notifications”, “Speech Recognition” how to make sense of those uttered commands etc. and if there is still time, I may talk a little about "Emotional Prosody” or how we can synthesis text into speech, with and emotional state attached.

Ryan Costigan and the folks at TEKSystems (http://www.teksystems.com/)will be providing food and drink for us.

Agenda:

5:30-6:00 - networking/food
