I'm very happy to announce that we will have Wolf Paulus of Intuit (and the San Diego Android Developers Group) presenting to us on Android's speech recognition and text-to-speech capabilities.

Wolf Paulus is an internationally experienced software developer and innovator, focusing on Android, embedded/mobile devices, and open source technologies. In his daytime job he helps to accelerate the discovery and adoption of emerging mobile technologies. Before joining Intuit, he was the Sr. Mobile Architect at HP, developing solutions, to deliver a compelling mobile print experience and a Distinguished Engineer at Motorola, working on the Google Android platform.

Wolf will be presenting a close look at Android's Speech-To-Text (STT) and Text-To-Speech (TTS) capabilities to write and deploy a simple app that is repeating back what we are speaking into the device, utilizing STT and TTS. Android uses Google's Speech-To-Text engine in the cloud but has Text-To-Speech capabilities baked right into Android since Android 2.0 (Donut), using SVOX Pico with six language packages (US and UK English, German, French, Italian and Spanish).

If you're heading eastbound on the 56 take the first exit that is immediately after the ramp to 15 northbound. That road is Sabre Springs Parkway. If you're traveling on the 15 take the Ted Williams Parkway exit heading east. Exit (almost immediately) and turn right on Sabre Springs Parkway. Head south on Sabre Springs Parkway a very short distance. Take the second right which is Evening Creek Road. Travel a very short distance and turn into the third driveway you see on your right. We will be meeting in the Ashford building which is the one in the middle with the "Ashford.edu" sign on it. Park anywhere on the street or in the lot. Come inside the Ashford building and up to the fourth floor. Exit the elevators and look for the conference room labeled Leadership Room.

Will see you all soon! Bill Wixted San Diego - Android Developers Group Organizer
