Presentations: Scala for Android & Java Annotations for Android
Hosted by GDG Philadelphia
Details
Scala for Android Developers (Yuvi Masory)
Scala is a hybrid object-oriented and functional
programming language for the JVM that has received much attention over the last two years. I'll give a brief overview of some of the features of Scala, especially as they can be used to enhance Android application development. Functional concepts such as immutability and referential transparency will also be introduced. No prior knowledge of functional programming is assumed.

Java Annotations for Android Development (David Stemmer)
Annotations provide a way to attach meta-data to Java language constructs, such as classes, methods and fields. I'll be giving some tips on how to use Java annotations to streamline your Android development, including common tasks such as input validation and data persistence. In addition, I'll give a brief overview of popular Android annotation frameworks, such as RoboGuice and AndroidAnnotations. The presentation will begin with a short introduction on Java annotations in general, so no prior experience is assumed.
