Sign-up for this class is being done through the library-only. That's why I've disabled the RSVPs on this form for everyone but the instructors and our host.
This Class is a Two-Part Series. It's going to be on Thursday May 6th and Thursday May 13th from 6 to 9 PM (feel free to arrive at 5 PM if you'd like to get started early). To enroll, call the circulation desk at 510-747-7777 during regular business hours (https://www.ci.alameda.ca.us/library/hours.html). This class can only be taken if you're willing to attend both sessions. A laptop (https://developer.android.com/sdk/requirements.html) is absolutely required to attend these classes. And experience with at least one higher level programming language is required.
On May 6th, we’ll go over setting up (and troubleshooting installation issues for) your own development environment, running an ‘Hello World’ Android program in the emulator, and showing you how to use some of the Android debugging tools.
On May 13th, we’ll give you a very basic 40,000 feet overview of Android development (if we didn’t have time to do it during the first class), and we’ll guide you through creating your own application from scratch, with a simple layout, a very simple form, and a button wired with limited functionality. And even if our mini-example doesn't use most of the building blocks that Android provides, we'll be sure to go over and at least explain what the rest of those building blocks can actually do for you, and where to go for more information after our class is over.
And time-permitting, you'd want to start downloading and installing the tools before coming to the first class. https://developer.andr...
