First Meetup! Getting started with AngularJS

Lets get together and kick off the first AngularJS Boston meetup. We will discuss the format of future meetups as well as gather ideas for topics to discuss in the future.

The first talk will be presented by James Morrin.

Getting Started with AngularJS

In this talk we will explore how to get started building AngularJS JavaScript apps. We will present some of the most important aspects to understand when writing an Angular app. As well as how to leverage the power of the framework to enable easier application development. Some of the topics we will cover include.

  • How is AngularJS different
  • Understanding the $scope
  • Leveraging <directives></directives>
  • Easy Testing with Dependency Injection
Although we will not cover all of the features of AngularJS, you will be able to walk away from this talk and jump right into experimenting with this powerful client side framework!

We are looking for (pizza/beer/soda) sponsors, if you are interested in helping out contact one of the event organizers.

Any chance the slides are still available somewhere? These links don't seem to be working anymore?

I just wanted to say thank you to Sharon and James for doing a great job organizing and speaking last night. You both did a terrific job and we were honored to sponsor.

If Hireminds can be a resource for anyone, whether it’s on hiring web engineers or job search/career guidance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. [masked] or (617)[masked]!

A big thank-you to everyone who helped organize this. It's easy to get started with AngularJS, but needs some real understanding of the internals to get a real application off the ground; this presentation helped in that aspect.

Darn - have a conflicting meetup where I'm presenting. I'm interested in: a) stickers b) t-shirts (they've posted details on both on how to place orders) c) testing d) Transitioning to Angular from JQuery.

I can give a 2 minute lightening talk on how I plan to build a completely client side (Desktop) application Podtgres-manager using node-webkit, AngularJS, and node-postgres (a node.js package to talk to Postgres).

I don't have any time dedicated to it yet, so no concrete dates :)

      February 27, 2013

    • James M.

node-webkit is pretty interesting. I have been meaning to look at it.. But then chrome adds packaged apps and I sorta forgot all about it :)

Really excited for this meetup. I wonder if anyone from the Western 'burbs will be going, and whether a carpool might be arranged? If not, what's the parking situation at Bocoup?

    February 26, 2013

    • Gurjeet S.

I have been to another meetup somewhere nearby, and the street parking was free after 7 PM or so. Is that the case around Bocoup too?

How competent must you be in JS to get something out of this presentation (my experience is mostly in Python/Django)

    February 25, 2013

    • James M.

The talk is focused on what you need to know to get started using Angular. If you have experience using jquery and editing HTML you should be okay.

      February 25, 2013

  • Sean M.

Really excited to be sponsoring this group!
