First talk wasn't much about Angular, hack-a-thon was fine but if people had had more notice to bring something it may have been better. I liked that we went out after - nice to get to know people as well as talk about Angular.

Maybe there could be an arranged workshops where you could discuss certain problems in groups? Or like you said, ppl could be more prepared - maybe give a list of possible topics to choose from before event and some might recognise an issue they've had or they have?

      1 · July 26, 2013

oh dear, reading this back without it next to me rating the meetup 4* out of 5* makes it seem like I didn't enjoy it - I did enjoy the hack-a-thon, i just wish i could have been more prepared :) A topic/problem brief would be really cool, would love to see different peoples solutions. I also thought the second talk was brilliant - the demos were great and it's so good to get a heads up about new releases. I was mostly trying to explain the I didn't give it 5 out of 5!

Pete - thanks for sharing your links!

For anyone interested in the presentation I gave, here are my slides
    http://slid.es/gorsti/angularjs

I will ensure that any future talks I or the team give at this meetup will have more details on the AngularJS apps we are building - we just weren't ready to do that last night.

In future, I will ensure that we share some code samples and one of the apps that we are currently working on, if everyone would be interested in that.

Thank you for the event! +1 for code samples, I was in particular interested with any heads up on your implementation of CSS3 : Zurb Foundation and about salesforce webapps.

      July 26, 2013

    • gordon s.

@Vivek OK will put if you want to ping me any specific q's on Zurb Foundation or SFDC webapps you have my details, and I will share responses here too for the group.

It seems this Angular group has a poll on what possible classes we would be interested in! Here -> http://www.meetup.com/AngularJS-London/polls/839472/

Great start for London's angularians and nice to meet a few of you, I'll be back.

The last part was especially useful for me, with clear explanations of what's changed and what's going to change.

Oh yes, and I was talking to someone about building wrappers around $routeProvider to DRY up route definitions. Here is a link to a "crudRouteProvider" that we use in our angular-app: https://github.com/angular-app/angular-app/blob/master/client/src/common/services/crudRouteProvider.js

and here it is being used in the admin/users section: https://github.com/angular-app/angular-app/blob/master/client/src/app/admin/users/admin-users.js#L5

Here are some links to the stuff I showed:

Video of Igor and Brad talking about 1.2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W13qDdJDHp8&feature=c4-overview

One team are using Breeze with Angular. Here is a video from the owner of Breeze: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2ErSQj3SN8&feature=c4-overview. Interestingly, in his code he uses .fin() to trigger the $digest. See https://github.com/wardbell/Breeze-Angular-Meetup-20130312/blob/master/app.js#L43

Someone else was asking about CI. Here is Igor's stuff on the subject: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GGMa6mmcg0 and more recently http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNpV7npURhE&feature=c4-feed-c

Two excellent talks - Peter's v1.2 may have been available on-line, but the his discussion of the processes behind what happens were very helpful.

    2 · July 26, 2013

Nice spread of food put on by Google. Imprompt to talk about what is going on in 1.2 was informative.

It seems like there are plenty of things that people are struggling with in their code. We should set aside some time in the evening for general discussion and pair programming to discuss and solve these problems.

Sadly can't make this one, work committments.

  • Glenn S.

It looks like I'm sadly not going to be able to make it now which is annoying. However I am looking to hire a full time Angular dev for BookingBug. We're starting to shift more of our code away from Ruby on Rails - and I want to do a lot if it in Angular - so we want to hire at least 1 if not 2 devs with either some good Angular experience - or at least some JS experience in general and a real enthusiasm for writing some hopefully quite cool Angular projects - which are going to be critical to the companies future direction

Grab me off list if you want a chat - or can recommend anyone (no recruitment agents please!)

    Cheers

    Glenn

    Hi,
I wonder if anybody has worked on ng-grid with custom cell editor template. I am trying to choose the custom template for field based on control type. Getting field set from the database. Any help please ?

    Hi,

Was wondering if any here uses the $http service extensively? I'm having some problems with the promise (.then vs .success .error) would love to have a quick chat at the meetup

    July 16, 2013

    • Murray C.

I would have to defer to Peter on this one. My experience with the .success is that the service had to have a global variable that you push the data in as the promise is not guaranteed to have set the value when it exits the .success method. Makes testing a pain as you have to .flush() every service method to check the value.

      I've used .success/.error for a few reasons:
      1. That seemed to be the recommendation in the Angularjs docs (and most examples I found online).
      2. the object returned with .then is wrapped in a data object which either mean I always need to process it (just extra boiler plate)
      3. The success/error code is much more readable (code wise)

I'm going to run a quick test with .then, these are all problems I can live with to be honest.

It would be great if we could try a code dojo format in the future. Maybe pairing on a angular code kata of some kind with a focus on TDD. Josh & Pete, is this something you'd be into facilitating?

    July 12, 2013

    • @sleepyfox

I'd be happy to help out with that
