"It is with great sadness and frustration that unless finances change immediately, BFAS will be out of business and need to close our doors forever. We don't know where the animals will go or who could take the hundreds we help every year. PAALS just north of us is in Foreclosure and they moved their dogs to NM. WE are the last remaining group that takes all animals (horses, dogs, livestock, birds, etc). With the economy, and the outrageous price of a hay bale $16, our deed expenses are more than 4-5 times greater now than last year. Our operating budget is over $8000 per month in just feed and expenses (vet, transport, repairs). We have no paid staff and no funding left. We have had less than $400 in donations in the past two months. Both board members Dan and Tracy have been unemployed for months and are trying desperately to start new businesses or find work. Their income always supplemented the rescue. The rescue is OUT OF Hay that the rescue owns. We have been trying to write grants ans solicit donations and that is not working. Dan retired from serving our country for 24 years in the USAF and has to give his x wife $1000 a month of his retirement leaving him and his kids less than 900 to live on. Tracy;s unemployment has run out and combined we have five kids and seven people we are trying to care for. We have over 100 animals at the farm that need adopted. We dont want them to end up at auction, bad homes, or slaughter and We are all very depressed at the situation. We are grateful for the volunteers like Mel, Shannon, Phil. Kim, Stacy, Laura, Julie, Jack and some others that that come to help out with chores. We have been praying that we could keep going but are at a loss now and some of us are very depressed and even suicidal. Our mission was to help the lives of animals and help groups of children in our community. We need immediate help with large donations or Grand ideas on how to keep us going. Please cross post to anyone who can help. We need jobs and donations and adopters. 16750 Thompson Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80908"
