Please Send an E-mail for Florida's Greyhounds

Hello Florida Animal Advocates,
There are only 7 states in the United States that still have active greyhound racing tracks. Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama, Iowa, Texas, West Virginia and Florida. As citizens of Florida and animal advocates who speak for the animals---we must do what we can to put an end to greyhound racing. Both New Hampshire and Rhode Island ended greyhound racing in 2010.  Pennsylvania in 2004. North Carolina in 1998. Even Nevada, which is known for gambling, put an end to greyhound racing in 1997. Why are we still racing in Florida? Ending greyhound racing can be a reality--if we all do our part.
There is strength in numbers! We need to come out in full force to end greyhound racing in Florida once and for all. The way that we are going to do this is to Speak up for the greyhounds! And urge others to do the same. Make sure to forward this e-mail to all of your Florida contacts.
We want to thank you for sending your e-mail to Leon Biegalski, urging him to consider reducing dog racing at Melbourne Greyhound Park. Because the majority of us do not live close to Tallahassee, and can not attend meetings there, it is extremely important to send e-mails to officials and legislators--as needed---to gain support for putting an end to greyhound racing.

Please copy and paste the following e-mail (or write your own) to Ken Lawson, Secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.  (See Grey2k request for action below). Thank you for your support.

Dear Mr. Lawson,
I am a Florida resident and a member of The League of Humane Voters-Florida Chapter. I would like to see greyhound racing in Florida come to an end. Please support the request by Melbourne Greyhound Park to reduce dog racing. This is a positive change for the greyhounds. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Urge Florida to Allow Fewer Dogs to Race
Dear Friends,

Last week, we asked you to contact the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering, and urge them to support a request from Melbourne Greyhound Park to reduce dog racing. Under the track's request, it would hold races during their upcoming season with only two greyhounds in each race.

This would significantly decrease the number of dogs at Melbourne that endure lives of confinement and suffer injuries. Melbourne has also joined with GREY2K USA to support greyhound decoupling, and is only continuing to hold races because it is required to do so under an antiquated law.

We are grateful to everyone who contacted Division Director Leon Biegalski on this issue. Now, we need your help in one more way. Today, please e-mail the Secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Ken Lawson, at [address removed], and politely ask him to also support this reduction in greyhound racing. Tell him that reducing the number of dogs in each race is a positive change that will help greyhounds.

Thank you for caring about the dogs!

Carey M. Theil
Executive Director, GREY2K USA
