I took a few photojournalism classes my junior and senior years of college and fell in love! I've been doing photography since. I also took pictures and got published in Central Michigan University's Grand Central Magazine and for the Broadcast and Cinematic Arts department. While I unfortunately have very few opportunities to do photojournalism these days I'm always interested in learning new types of photography.
I mostly shoot with my Nikon D700, Olympus OM-D EM-5, and my phone (currently an iPhone 4S (since it's always on me)). If I want to shoot film I'll usually shoot with a Minolta X-370 (or X-700) or a Nikon N80 35mm SLRs. I also have several other DSLRs, SLRs, Medium and Large Formats, and other cameras. As a technology enthusiast, I also find gear interested and am willing to try all kinds of cameras and equipment. My Favorite lenses for my Nikons are my 35-70 f/2.8, 100mm f/2.8, and 50mm f/1.8. On my Olympus I usually use my 45mm f/1.8 or 20mm f/1.7 primes. On my Minoltas I really like the Minolta MD 50mm f/1.7, 50mm f/3.5 macro, and 200mm f/4.
Photojournalism, street, photo stories / documentary, candid portraits, macro, landscape/archetecture. I'm interested in learning all kinds of photography however, and I recently started to learn more portraiture, model photography, and other studio-related types. I really appreciate photos that can tell a story and communicate emotion.
I'm always striving to improve all-round. I also always need new ideas for things to shoot!
A friend suggested I check out Meetup.com and the site recommended this group to me. When I joined it was newly founded. I'm glad I have the opportunity to see this group grow and help contribute to it as an organizer.
I am an IT professional living in Plymouth, MI. I recently graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Information Technology and Media Production. I am now helping run this group so I and others can continue to grow as photographers.
