cancelled meetup-- Monarch butterfly migration: Point Pelee (Ontario, Canada)

Most of you already are aware of this, but in case some people missed it, we went ahead and cancelled the Monarch trip to Point Pelee due to very low numbers of Monarchs this year. More info. on this year's numbers appear in links below in a message that I sent out on 9/1.

I'm still thinking about doing another nature walk + shoot on 9/14, but I haven't decided where it will be just yet. It will likely take place in A2 / Washtenaw County. I'll send an announcement out this weekend once I've decided.

Sorry about the cancelled event. Hopefully they'll bounce back and we'll see more of them next year.

p.s. If you know of a natural space in a2  that is starting to look good this week, please send me a private message if you would like the meetup to take place there. I have four places I'm considering, and I was going to pick one or two for the morning of 9/14.

Your Event Organizer, Frank Kaelin, sent the following message to some members of Ann Arbor Shutterbugs (Photography):

**9/1 Update: Counts of monarchs this year are very low. We're seriously considering cancelling this event and scheduling something closer to home that doesn't involve the distance and border crossing (maybe Dow Field in the Arb and then a shoot at Matthaei Botanical Gardens? LeFurge Woods, then Matthaei? Let me know if you feel strongly that we should go even if there aren't any Monarchs... we still have a couple of weeks.

Some recent news updates on Monarch counts: (they talk about monarch numbers at around 3’ 57” in)

I know folks from all over SE Michigan are attending this event, so I thought I'd put out word now that the main attraction for this shoot, the Monarchs, are not looking like they'll be around. Sorry to report this. If 20 people want to go anyway, I'll consider keeping this alive. But if we only get a handful of folks who want to make the trip anyway, I'm thinking about cancelling this official meetup and doing something smaller in Washtenaw County.

:( Frank
