July Happy Hour: 3D Printing!

Skyline has offered to host our July happy hour,  so venture up to their offices near BWI Airport for our next presentation.  Trevor will be demonstrating his new 3D printer!

Topic: An introduction to 3D printing, how it works, its uses and limitations and strange and fun things people are trying to do with it.  A show and tell plus Q&A for anyone curious about 3D printing technology.

Feel free to bring snacks and beverages to share (alcohol is allowed).

It was great! Tons of great info, and now I want a house full of 3D printers so I can maniacally print everything my heart desires. :p

Glad you liked it, Misty. Hopefully I covered it in a way that both technical and non-technical people found something of interest in there. Hard to tell when you're standing in front of people just trying to remember all the points you wanted to cover. :)

Thanks to everyone who came out... hopefully I kept things interesting enough. The presentation was created using jmpress.js presentation library just running in Chrome and using HTML5 video tags and some JS:
    http://jmpressjs.github.io/docs/

The printer I have is the RigidBot:
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1650950769/rigidbot-3d-printer

And so people don't think I was making things up, here's the 3D modeling software that shows you how to build your model out of Legos and lets you pick pieces of it to 3D print, so you don't have to print your entire project at once before making adjustments:

If anyone has any questions about what was covered or what wasn't covered.. or whats links to anything I talked about or software used, let me know.

I'm bringing a case of beer

I was planning on just bringing a 6 pack of craft. If Stan still wants to bring his that should be fine. But true, perhaps some kind of snack makes sense.

I have 8 beers (left out of a 12 pack Southern Tier sampler). People are welcome to bring more but out of 10 people, we probably don't need a keg or anything. hah I also have small Cokes and Mt Dews for those who don't want beer.

Stephanie sent out an email but just so it appears on this page as well, the address is 504-C, not 508-C. 504-C is where we're meeting, the other is their main office space.

Both addresses will get you close, though. Directions from Dorsey Rd/176:

    * Turn onto McCormick Drive off of Dorsey

    * Take the 3rd right

    * Building 504 on your right with a sign that says “Knowtion Center” above the door (Suite C)

    Once inside:
    * Proceed straight down the hallway, the meeting room will be on your left and the kitchen and bathrooms on your right.

I'll bring some Sunchips, or something to that effect. Ian and Trevor will bring some beer to share. Is anyone else bringing anything?

So it looks like I'll be doing the presentation for the evening and it will be about 3D printing. If you know anyone interested or curious about 3D printing, tell them to come along!

There will be light refreshments as well. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
