The Past, Present and Future of Apache Kafka

Details

Doors open @ 6pm, talks start at 6:30 and will go until 8:00.

6:30 - Joe Stein (https://twitter.com/allthingshadoop), Apache Kafka committer & PMC member => Welcome, Quick Intro to Apache Kafka

6:40 - Jay Kreps (https://twitter.com/jaykreps), Apache Kafka committer & PMC member => What is next with Apache Kafka, 0.8.2 and beyond.

7:00 - Gwen Shapira (https://twitter.com/gwenshap), Software Engineer @ Cloudera => Getting data from Kafka to Hadoop should be simple. Which is why the community has so many options to choose from. I'll review some popular solutions: Storm, Spark, Flume and Camus. We'll go over the pros and cons of each, recommended use-cases and future development plans
around few of those.

7:20 Eric Sammer (https://twitter.com/esammer), CTO at ScalingData => How ScalingData uses Kafka for Event-Oriented Machine Data. While we frequently talk about how to build interesting products on top of machine and event data, the reality is that collecting, organizing, providing access to, and managing this data is where most people get stuck. Eric Sammer, CTO at ScalingData and author of Hadoop Operations will talk about how ScalingData uses Kafka together with other open source systems such as Hadoop, Solr, and Impala/Hive to collect, transformation and aggregate event data and then build applications on top of this platform.

7:40 - 8:00 - Lightening talks? If you are interested in speaking for 5 minutes let me know (message me privately).

Drinks and Food sponsored by Cloudera (http://www.cloudera.com/) (Thanx!!!)
