Wawaynda SP Parking Lot
Join us for an 11-mile hiking adventure on several park loops in Wawayanda State Park named by the Lenape for 'winding water' or 'water on the mountain'. Trails are heavily wooded with mixed deciduous forests, white pine and hemlock forests; bogs, swamps, and a large lake that attracts a variety of birds. The terrain is less rocky and more level compared to typical North Jersey trails [mostly old woods roads]. We will skirt Wawayanda and Lookout Lakes and stop at Wawayanda Furnace. This will be an all-day activity; typically we are off trail around 4:00ish. Bring sturdy boots, non-cotton layers, lunch, water, snacks and camera. As a precaution, WEAR ORANGE. Meet at 9:00am - Clinton Road parking lot; P7 on NY/NJ Trail Conference Map #116 [GPS[masked], -74.407380], 7.5 miles north of Route 23. Heavy rain cancels, no dogs allowed. Optional after-hike refreshments at local eatery.
