Appalachian Wilderness Hikers Pages

Appalachian Wilderness Hikers is a HIKING CLUB sponsored by Atlanta based Appalachian Wilderness Guides[/url]. The "home" of our club is the "Top of Georgia Hostel & Hiking Club" in the north Georgia mountains (located between Clayton, GA & Hiawassee, GA on Hwy 76 next to the Appalachian Trail at Dicks Creek Gap).

The sponsoring company was founded in 2007 - but the group has been an icon in Georgia's outdoors community since before the group even had a name!

The hiking club (Meetup) events that the company sponsors each month are a great FREE opportunities for hikers to participate in mini afternoon-adventures ! (These are non-profit hiking club activities being led by volunteer guides - your participation does not make you a client of AWG - you are voluntarily chipping in to cover gas & materials fees for our volunteers / vendors or locales involved in our after hike socials).

You'll become familiar with the faces of Organizer Bob Gabrielsen & Co-Organizer Alex Barge on most of the events !

Organizer Bob Gabrielsen has 20+ years of outdoors experience under his belt - and is a popular fixture for his "How-To" hiking & backpacking videos on You Tube. A 2003 thru hiker of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail (he hiked the whole trail of more than 2,000 miles in 5 months) his widely known "trail-name" "Sir-Packs-Alot"(he's always ready for anything) is known as the "Yoda" of backpacking guides (without the green skin or big ears!). If there's a mountain story drenched in Appalachian history to tell - this is the guy to tell it!
