How to Develop WordPress Sites Locally /w Patrick Rauland

Developing your WordPress sites on a live server isn't the only way to build a site. You can also develop a site locally on your own computer, make as many changes as you want, and then when it is all ready you can put it on the live server.

Patrick will discuss some of the benefits of developing a site locally follow by going over all of the basics of developing on a local machine. After going over the basic's Patrick will also be give a live demo using various pieces of software, setting up the site, configuring it, and then launching it.

This will be the first in a serious of workflow related meetups. If you have a different workflow feel free to contact the organizers to share it.

I was so looking forward to this getting this information and I'm so sorry I missed this because of digging out of white stuff (I will catch it via Google+), but I'm glad I still made the trip to Appleton from Oshkosh and actually managed to meet a few nice folks!

Hey Patrick - I am stuck until the plow comes through. Any chance on getting the details on streaming the presentation?

Hey Patrick - count me in on needing a review of today's presentation. I'm stuck behind a snow blower ... clearing the drive took longer than expected and I can't get there either.

How long will your presentation last?

    February 6, 2013

    • Patrick R.

Normally these probably last 30-45 minutes. This one will most likely be a full hour.

Have you considered showing off Desktop Server by Stephen Carroll? It's an awesome local environment that's super easy to set up. He has both Windows and Mac products available (I use a Windows machine) and he just came out with a new version. I'd be happy to show it to you if you have time. :)

I'd be willing to share my workflow at some time as well if you'd like

@Rose, I'm sure that would be awesome for a future presentation and I'm sure we can have some discussion about it during this presentation.

If the weather permits, I'll try to make it down from Door County.

You might want to specify OS or if your covering all. Some OS's differ a little and have multiple options. Just a thought.

    • Patrick R.

I'll be using my mac and showing off MAMP. I'll make a point of bringing up solutions for the other OS'.

I suppose if some one is running a linux box they already know what they need.

@Jessa Green, I don't want to promise anything but I'm thinking I should be able to stream it. Add me on Google+ and Twitter (@bftrick & @AppletonWP) so I can send you the deets.

I'm going to try to make it out this Friday, but not sure I will be able to. Any way this could be shared in a Google Hangout or via other webinar type share?
