Theme Development from Scratch Presented by Patrick Rauland

Something that every Wordpress user wants to do is develop their own theme. Patrick Rauland will be guiding the group through the process of building a theme from scratch. Learning the fundamentals of creating themes is useful for every developer because it will give you the knowledge to build child themes, build your own theme, and follow best practices.

You are a machine, Patrick! Here's the meetup link for anyone that hasn't signed-up for the big event on the 18th: http://www.web920.com/events/64398512/

Thanks Kimberly, Keith, and Jeff! It was fun. Hopefully we all learned something.

I've posted the resources (slides and code) to the discussion board.

This was very helpful for those of us who want to start down the path of DIY ... thanks so much Patrick! I'm sure you'll be getting lots of questions from us newbies who will be trying to figure out what's going on 'under the hood' of WP.

Did a great job boiling things down to the bare essentials. Thanks!

@Bill, that would be a very long meeting if we talked about SEO too. We will have to push SEO back to another month.

Are you going to cover SEO as well here?

@Kimberly. I'll try to keep the presentation under an hour. Questions/discussion might continue on after that.

How long will this session be? I'd like to be able to tell co-workers when to expect me back.

Tim - Schedule is something we all struggle with. Time away from work is tough for everyone. Three "devil's advocate" points:

    1. It's only once a month. Put it in your work calendar. Maybe you can't hit every one, but that could be true of any day/time.

    2. Typically, if you are at the professional level these groups are typically intended to be - this is a work related (if not required) event.

    3. Finally, we do have other web groups that meet at night. Hit web920.com for more info on that.

I'm new to the group and have been unable to attend due to the meetup time. Do you plan on having any non-business hour times?
