Welcome Skiers/Snowboarders,

The Drive:
From Phoenix take Hwy 87 through Payson to the 260. (Turn Right at the McDonalds in Payson), there is only one.
Here is my experience with the drive. I live in Show Low, and my daughter goes down to Phoenix every weekend to see her dad. I drive up, and down the Mountain both Friday evening after I drop her off, and back again Sunday evening when I take her home. I make the trip about 8 times a month. I have not had any difficulties. Right now, the roads are dry and clear, and the drive is beautiful. Just be cautious of wildlife along the way especially once you get outside of Payson. I find it best to stay behind other drivers, and not try to speed if you are not familiar with roads that are shared with elk and deer. I have only seen them once along the road so far. Not a common event, but if you hit one they can cause quite a bit of damage, and scare you to death.

Please post on the site if you are wishing to ride share. That way others will have the chance to share the cost, and help with expenses, plus it will give you an extra set of eyes to watch for critters and read directions to Windy's house. As far as a carpool. There is a Fort McDowell Casino just N. of Fountain Hills on the 87 which would be a perfect meeting spot for anyone coming up wanting to start a carpool or caravan. I like that it has security, and camera's so your cars should be safe, it's easy to find, and it's open 24/7.

We are all meeting at Joe, and Windy's cabin in Heber/Overgaard. We will have dinner and wait for all to arrive before splitting the group. Half staying with Windy, and Joe, and half heading up to the condo in Show Low with Lark, and Kathleen. We will divide into groups once everyone has arrived. Please bring something to share for pot luck dinner, and your own beverages Friday night. (Roast chicken, hummus, bread, mixed salads, jello mold from grocery store in Payson etc)

None of us are experts. I would suggest you go to the site for conditions, reserve rentals, and sign up for the lessons ASAP so that you are sure to know what time you need to be there on Saturday. Most of us are either rusty or first timers, so you will be in good company. We are meeting at Joe and Windy's on Friday which is in the Heber/Overgaard area. It will shave about 45 minutes off the drive up to Show Low. It is another 30 minutes up to Sunrise Ski Resort from Show Low.

You are responsible for your own safety so use good judgement. We are a very caring, and considerate group, and will give you advise based off our past experience, however it is impossible to know what choices another person/animal might make, so use common sense, drive carefully, and get as much information from other resources such as Internet, GPS,Arizona Department of Fish and Game, Sunrise Ski Resort, and ADOT as you need until YOU feel you are informed, confident, and comfortable. Everyone is different and not all of us follow maps, and written directions alike. If you have never done an event with us before, please rest assure we love our members and consider you family, and will do our best to make you feel welcome, and keep this meetup fun, and organized.

Can't wait to meet you/see you again,
