February 2014 Book Club Meeting

Hello Book lovers,

We selected our books for the February 2014 meeting.

"Tales of the Unexpected" by Roald Dahl
"The City and the City" by China Mieville

If you have time you can read both books, otherwise you can select the book you are most interested in.

The Around Fitzroy & Collingwood Book Club is very informal; there is no set meeting agenda. Over a coffee, beer or wine, we usually have a chat about what everyone thought of the books of the month and see if anyone has read anything else exciting or heard of any great literary events on in Melbourne.

"Tales of the Unexpected" by Roald Dahl

Particularly the three stories 'Taste','Dip in the Pool' and 'Skin'.

Roald Dahl’s Tales of the Unexpected is a delightfully dark collection of sixteen stories, each with a startling end. Among the unforgettable characters lurk the homicidal wife and her deadly leg of lamb, a conniving and lecherous wine connoisseur and the one-eyed brain at the mercy of his vengeful spouse. Tales of the Unexpected is an astonishing assortment of twisted treats from the master storyteller.

"The City and the City" by China Mieville
When the body of a murdered woman is found in the extraordinary, decaying city of Beszel, somewhere at the edge of Europe, it looks like a routine case for Inspector Tyador Borlu of the Extreme Crime Squad. But as he probes, the evidence begins to point to conspiracies far stranger, and more deadly, than anything he could have imagined. Soon his work puts him and those he cares for in danger. Borlu must travel to the only metropolis on Earth as strange as his own, across a border like no other. With shades of Kafka and Philip K. Dick, Raymond Chandler and 1984, The City & The City is a murder mystery taken to dazzling metaphysical and artistic heights.

I'm so sad I'm going to miss this meetup - I was really looking forward to discussing 'The City and the City'. Unfortunately I have a writing workshop I have to attend, I hope to see you all in March!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
