Meetup details changed: Around Fitzroy & Collingwood Book Club June Meetup

Hi Book Readers,

I hope you are all well! I have had a few members advise getting a copy of The Dispossessed has proved a little difficult. I believe it can be ordered on line from Dymocks but the delivery may be a bit late for some to get through it.

So nobody misses out, we have decided to have a second book for the June meeting ?The White Tiger? by Aravin Adiga. This book can be found at most bookshops and is a prize winner too ? the Man Booker prize 2008

The White Tiger offers a story of coruscating wit, blistering suspense, and questionable morality, told by the most volatile, captivating, and utterly inimitable narrator that this millennium has yet seen. Born in the dark heart of India, Balram gets a break when he is hired as a driver for his village's wealthiest man, two house Pomeranians (Puddles and Cuddles), and the rich man's (very unlucky) son. From behind the wheel of their Honda City car, Balram's new world is a revelation. While his peers flip through the pages of Murder Weekly ( Love -- Rape -- Revenge! ), barter for girls, drink liquor (Thunderbolt), and perpetuate the Great Rooster Coop of Indian society, Balram watches his employers bribe foreign ministers for tax breaks, barter for girls, drink liquor (single-malt whiskey), and play their own role in the Rooster Coop.

So, basically if you can get your hands on The Dispossessed that is great. Otherwise start on ?The White Tiger?. I will read both and hopefully a couple of others will have time to as well. Hopefully that has not confused anyone, it is a bit unconventional but we can give it a go. At the least we should have an interesting discussion.

Have a great weekend!

Nerida smile
