Mid-Summer Photo Critique

Since the May Digital Art in Photography photo critique was such a success let's have another! Join us for the mid-summer Digitial Critique Meetup where you can submit digital photos for review and discussion, or you can attend to just comment or even just listen.

Members are invited to submit their photos by email following the instructions below. We will accept photos from up to 12 members. You can submit as many photos as you want, but keep in mind that in order to finish up in two hours, we will limit critiques to about 8 minutes per person. So from a practical point of view, three or four images will probably suffice. But you decide.

Images will be displayed using Adobe Lightroom. Each photographer has the option to have their images displayed for discussion only, or to see them actually modified as the discussion develops. Due to time restrictions, these modifications will be limited to White Balance, Exposure, Vibrancy, Saturation, Cropping, and maybe one or two more.

Submit your digital images to Chris@ThatFridaydotCom Please submit JPEG images only. The resolution of our projector is SXGA+ (1400 x 1050), so images should be at least 1050 pixels vertically and 1400 horizontally. You may send full size images if you would like to allow for seeing the image cropped during the session. If the file size is over 2 MB each, please separate into multiple email messages. Images must be sent on or before July 27, 2012 to be considered.

You will receive an email confirmation for each email message you send to the address above. It is your responsibility to watch for this confirmation to ensure that your images have been received. If you do NOT get a confirmation, resubmit or contact the Meetup organizer.

Chris did a fine job of preparing for the critique and moderating it. I liked how both he and the participants were attentive to time and how they kept the critique moving along at a steady pace, not dwelling on a angle image for too long and not being overly nit-picky. I also appreciated the fact that the participants gave only positive feedback, and gave considerable encouragement and support to each other... very different than critiques I've attended in other places. I learned a lot from both the response to my own images and the comments on the work of the other participants. A welcoming group! I hope to be able to do it again.

This was my first photo critique. I didn't submit any photos -- I wanted to just observe at first. I thought it was excellent. The photos that were submitted were varied, interesting and very good. The feedback was excellent and kindly delivered. The meeting was conducted in a very organized way. I will definitely attend again. Thanks!

Update: Learned from the group that Lightroom is a valuable tool and so downloaded a copy. Applied what I learned from the session to the photo, now posted with the album for this meeting. Much more satisfying! Thanks, everyone.

Original: Meetup was very helpful in two ways: I got direct feedback about my photos in a way that is immediately helpful, and I saw some terrific photos from others and watched as others helped improve them. Very congenial and supportive group. This was a very helpful experience. I'll be back.

Wide variety of photos, interesting and constructive comments and an unexpected lesson in Lightroom editing. Looking forward to the next one.

Another successful Meetup. The photos were shown and discussed. There were lots of suggestions on how to improve them, including some instant Lightroom work. Some of the photos really didn't need any work. Was a great collection of people.

Good group. Interesting discussion and ideas. Still a bit too much emphasis on editing, but enjoyed it none the less.

Hi Chris, I'm new to Meet Up and this group... (still trying to figure it all out). :) I just wanted to say that while I won't be able to make the Mid-Summer Photo Critique, I'm very interested and would definitely work to make the next one if you all decide to do this again. Thanks. I look forward to meeting you and the other members soon. -lené
