Re: [artinphoto] suggestion for a new kind of Meetup

Hi Jon,

It's an interesting idea.  I'm up for anything.  Two ideas I have are; 1)the people who want to participate are assigned a number.  Someone in the group starts by forwarding a photo to the first person on the list.  That person changes it in some way and then emails it or snail mails it to the next person, etc.  Each step is documented along the way.  When all participants have put their sticky, creative hands on it, we get together to 'discuuss' the process and have a good chuckle. 2) A group gets together and agrees on photographing either the same object, i.e., still life or person.  Then we meet a week later to see how each person interpreted the object and discuss our interpretation.  Good over dinner in a cheap? restaurant.

I have an idea for a new format for a Meetup.  The idea would be to get 3-4 people, each of whom would like to make a brief (30 minute) presentation about something they enjoy and know about.  Someone could share a series of photos that they have been working on, perhaps soliciting comments.

I have a number of topics that I could share, as follows:

1) Video.  Not particularly on-topic for this group, but most of us have cameras that support video.  Some of the newer cameras will not only shoot regular video (many in one form or another of HD), but some now shoot both slow motion video and "fast motion" (stop motion) video.  There are free apps for the iPhone that allow you to create time lapse videos.  Some of you may want to learn what the options are, and how to play with this.

2) Macro.  I use cameras that can take amazing macro photos: perhaps we can share some of what we've done, or explain the techniques

3) Sports.  I've shot sports photos for years, and could share some of them, and tips for how I do it.

We have many talented people in this group.  I imagine we could have one of these sharing Meetups every other month for years.

Please get in touch with me if you have something you would like to share with the group.

Jon
