Angels & Aristocrats: Grand Cultural Baggage

The current Auckland Art Gallery exhibition Angels and Aristocrats has gathered "Old Master" paintings from the major public galleries in New Zealand.

TJ McNamara, NZ Herald Art Commentator will discuss this exhibition focusing on individual works by Marcio d'Oggiono, Giudo Reni, Claude, Salvadore Rosa and Pieter Breughel the Younger among others.

As well as setting these artists in context he will also examine the social motivation that brought the works to New Zealand and established the galleries.

This is perfect to prepare you to see the exhibition or to appreciate all over again if you have already seen it.

Meet up only allows for $AUS. The cost is in fact NZ$15 or $10 for student/community/Gold card

Thursday May 23rd, 6.30 pm for 7 pm start

At the lovely historic Old St Michael's Church At Corban's Estate Art Centre.

You need to drive right around the back of the centre. There is easy parking right beside told St Michaels.

Well what an enjoyable evening. Lots to see and learn - not only about the content/ symbolism/ the why of the paintings we saw, but their journeys through time and across the world, to how they ended up in Auckland and who they're connected with.
    Loving your work guys.

This was a stunning talk. It really put the fine exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery into context. This exhibition is an unusual collection of the old fine arts help in the public galleries around the country. TJ's extensive knowledge, delight in art and perspective on this exhibition
