Details

We're making an EARLY trip on SUNDAY to spend ALL DAY at the Maryland RenFest and doing so IN COSTUME where motivation strikes; after we get kicked out, we'll be doing a GROUP DINNER at some as-yet-undetermined location.

The show opens at 10:AM with a pre-show starting at 9:AM, and the festival ends at 7:PM. Getting there early lets you interact with the characters, see some improv crowd interaction, buy your tickets without standing in long lines, hit the restrooms before walking around, watch a costume parade, and watch the cannon be fired.

The trip, without traffic, is 1hr 30min, from the Atlanta Bread Company, with tolls via Rt 267 Dulles Toll Road and without via Rt. 192 George Town Pike. There is a "secret" back route that avoids congestion areas we're planning on using.

The plan is to meet at the Atlanta Bread Company to car early enough to avoid traffic, car pool, get good parking, and see as much of the pre-show as possible. As with the many ArtKlub field trips, loud music, snacks, and folly will accompany the trip.

Do your companions a favor, as we'll be wearing extra layers and walking a lot and jammed into small places for long periods -- WEAR DEODORANT and possibly in excess. "There's one in every crowd, and if you don't know who it is, it's you."

The latest departure time is 8:AM, to arrive around 9:30am. Early departures may happen around 7:30am, if cars are full, in hopes of catching the full pre-show.

Ticket prices are $22 per person, major credit cards are accepted, and coupons may be available online, noting sometimes AAA cards can get discounts.

BRING CASH as well for a day of price gouging treats and drinks.

This is a great event for photographers, though a small portable pocket sketchbook works too and fits the genre. There should be lots of opportunities for posing and playing. Photographers, grab some pocket release forms and bring your ArtKlub business cards.

Be sure to trade phone numbers before hand to meet up throughout the day and don't forget to have a full charge before leaving; bring those car chargers. Same for your cameras, and make room on your memory cards.

Those who would like to meet up with us, rather than carpooling, drop us a message before hand and we'll pass out some cell numbers.

You can almost always find someone from the group at the Globe Theater throughout the day, especially where improv is happening.

At the end of the day, we'll be meeting up at the White Heart Tavern, enjoying the musical entertainment, some last might beverages and group photos, before heading out for dinner.

Dinner will be at the Double T diner, located at 12 Defense Street
Annapolis, MD 21401. It's near the festival, has plenty of good food, even better desserts, is a place to rest one's legs, and is a good way to let the heavy traffic pass.

Note, you don't have to stay until the very end -- but it'd be wise to provide your own transportation if that's the case.

It is conceivable that we'll be returning after midnight. Plan accordingly.

Monday is Columbus Day, so you should be able to sleep in.
