As an interdisciplinary artist working with technology as influence and medium, I think it is important to engage with communities that are discussing ideas and projects at the nexus of research, information, open source, and cultural sharing—within the context of art and cultural creation. I feel this group will push my ideas and my approach to projects. I’m interested in contributing to conversations around contemporary media based art and design practices. There are evolutions happening in culture today I’m excited about, and I feel this group would address that excitement with speakers, topics, and content.
I’m working on a new community based project building on my arctic expedition. It combines open source tools, an online component connected to social media, and citizen science. I want to broaden my knowledge about the internet as an artistic medium. This project will also have offline components pre and post. I want to hear and engage in the discussion of projects that work across the net and into the material, with a focus on community and collaboration as part of the process and the aesthetics of the work. And I’m definitely open to learning things I might not be aware of.
