Friday, February 13th at 6:30pm - Exotic Plant Management

Biological invasions are one of the most critical and challenging environmental issues today. The widespread and accelerating threat of invasive exotic species poses a serious problem to native diversity and the integrity of natural ecosystems. Roughly 35-46% of listed rare, threatened, and endangered species are at risk because of invasive exotic species.

Lindsay Majer will highlight six of the most severe and significant invasive exotic plants of concern in the southern Appalachian region and discuss why they are considered a threat. Management measures conducted by the Southern Appalachian Exotic Plant Partnership will be discussed as well as what citizens and land stewards can do about alien invasions.

Lindsay is an Environmental Planner and GIS Analyst with Equinox Environmental Consultation & Design. She works on a variety of projects including a multi-agency partnership for invasive exotic plant identification, inventory, and control. She is also involved in a number of local watershed plans, assessing aquatic habitats and working with local organizations to improve water quality in their watershed.
