This meetup group is a continuation of the Aspie Friends group that has been around since 2007.

Located in Greenville, SC, Aspie Friends is a non-profit organization that provides support to children and families dealing with high-functioning autism.  High-functioning autism is only a segment of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) which includes Asperger’s Syndrome.  The term 'Aspie' is an affectionate name given to those who are diagnosed with Asperger's.  Regardless of the label, families and children dealing with the disorder are faced with daily challenges.

The group is facilitated by parents, not medical professionals.  Many parents find that the cost for group therapy can be extremely expensive and is often not covered by medical insurance.  The Aspie Friends organization focuses on assisting the children with basic social interaction skills in a group setting.  This helps the children with basic motor functions by having fun through play and activities.
