Topic
WebRTC intro and Status
Abstract
Dr Alex G presentation will focus on providing a template to understand WebRTC concepts better, either from the technology perspective or from the business/impact perspective. With that good foundation in place, we will go deeply into its capacity and discuss roughly about the multiparty video capacity.
- Dr Alex Eleftheriadis Ph.D. - Chief Scientist & Co-founder Vidyo Bio
Alex drives the technical vision and direction for Vidyo and also represents the company on standardization committees and technical advisory boards. He is an award-winning researcher, bringing over 24 years of research experience in video compression and communications to his role at Vidyo.
Company
Vidyo is the company behind Google+ Hangouts audio/video streaming! It introduced the first Selective Forwarding Unit (SFU) for multi-point video in 2008 (the VidyoRouter), and in fact coined the term SFU itself. Vidyo is developing the next-generation Scalable VP9 codec with Google, which is already available in the WebM and WebRTC repositories, and will soon find its way into the Chrome browser.
Topic:
Video and Videoconferencing using WebRTC
Abstract:
Alex will talk about how video is handled in WebRTC, the choice of codecs, as well as the choice of architectures for performing point-to-point and multi-point connections. Time permitting, we will also cover example platform APIs.
