Schedule:

Friday

After leaving from ATL at 4:00 a.m. on Friday morning for the 6 hour trip to the dock at St. Mary’s, GA, we will board the ferry or the 45 minute voyage to Cumberland Island. Upon arrival, we will hike to the Sea Camp (1/4 mile one way). After setting up our tents and camp, the rest of the day will be spent day hiking, beachcombing, or just hanging out.

Saturday

On Saturday morning, we will rise early and explore the beauty of Cumberland Island. For some, there is the beach. For others, there will be opportunities to tour nearby architectural ruins, and/or day hiking to locations along the Parallel Trail.

Sunday

We will again rise early on Sunday morning, break camp, and travel by National Park Service van to the Northern end of this island as part of the National Parks Service’s Lands and Heritage Tour (http://www.nps.gov/cuis/planyourvisit/lands-and-legacies-tour.htm). Here we will tour The Settlement, see evidence of the African-American community that once lived there, and pay a visit to the African Baptist Church; the church that was the wedding site for the late John F. Kennedy, Jr. On Sunday afternoon we will travel South to the Sea Camp Dock and the ferry that will take us back to St. Mary’s at 4:00 p.m. and the van to Atlanta. We will return to the Atlanta area around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday night.
