Now in it's 29th year the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo represents the spirit of the west and the rich heritage of Black Americans. It is the only Black touring rodeo in the country.

Some of the nation's most skilled and entertaining Black cowboys and cowgirls will ride in this touring rodeo competition. You don't want to miss it.

About Bill Pickett: Bill Pickett, a black cowboy, born in 1870 in Texas, five years after the Civil War ended and the slaves of the Confederacy were emancipated. He was the best-known African American rodeo performer of all time. The first Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, held in 1984 in Denver, Colorado.

He created "bulldogging," a move in which he rode alongside a steer, jumped onto its shoulders and brought the steer down by digging his feet into the ground. The modern day version of the move is called steer wrestling and remains one the most intriguing exhibitions throughout rodeo history.
