Virtualizing Big Data: Effective Approaches Derived from Real Deployment

Details

Our original presenter cannot make it to the presentation and Rommel Garcia will be covering for him. We now have a venue for presentation sponsored by HashMap.

Abstract:
This talk takes the attendee through the basics of virtualizing Hadoop to begin with. This is the first step in providing Hadoop on the public or private cloud. All dynamic environments that require rapid, on demand provisioning of Hadoop clusters need virtualization as the core infrastructure. This talk delves deeply into three different real world example deployments, at small, medium and large scale, to let the attendee see how real enterprises are deploying Hadoop differently on virtual machines. The topic of virtual machine placement onto physical host servers will be treated, as it is important for best performance. Best practices for building your Hadoop cluster on a virtual platform will be described. Finally some key obstacles will be dealt with. The attendee will leave the talk with a much-increased level of confidence that their Hadoop clusters can be deployed using virtualization. Attendees will also understand the benefits they stand to gain from doing so. A set of technical papers/references that delve into each case study shown will also be given at the conclusion section. The talk will be technical in nature and will assume familiarity with the Hadoop architecture and with the concept of a virtual machine.

Bio:
