Atlanta Node.js Monthly Meeting

Details

Hello Node Fans,

We will be having the first of our regular monthly meetings next week. We will hold meetings the 2nd Thursday of every month from 6:30pm - 9:00pm at Hypepotamus ( http://www.hypepotamus.com/ ) for the foreseeable future.

At each meeting, we will strive to have two presentations. One that will target beginners and one that will target more experienced node.js developers.

This month, we have two great presentations for you.

Seán McCord will present:

Redis Queues for NodeJS

Pub/sub and event emitters are excellent tools for many classes of problems, but sometimes, you just need a queue. Throw in a bit of networking and a few worker nodes, and suddenly you've got a mess of communications, semaphores, back-checking, and concurrency problems. Using Redis to implement your scalable processing queues is a cheap, easy way of applying an event-driven philosophy to the problem.

Seán is the founder of CyCore Systems, Inc., an Atlanta-based engineering firm which is dedicated to solving the most difficult of problems businesses have in the areas of telephony, hardware interfacing, and interoperability. He has 18 years' experience developing custom systems based on open-source technologies.

Rick Thomas will present:

LevelDb and Node.js Streams

LevelDb has been described as the "Node.js of Databases" and is the focus of an active group of Node.js modules centered at https://github.com/rvagg/node-levelup . The talk will begin with an update on Node.js streams, demonstrate streaming RSS feeds to and from LevelDb, and discuss how streams simplify asynchronous code.

Rick is focused on the strategic design of cooperative work. From his past development of collaboration products, and his interest in the natural history of language, he offers a unique perspective on the potential to change the shape of our work and society. Rick uses Node.js in experimental prototypes.

After the meeting, we will adjourn to Cypress Street Pint and Plate ( http://cypressbar.com/ ) for dinner, drinks, and networking.

We look forward to seeing you there!
