Titanium development workshop

As a prelude to the main event (Titanium 2.0 launch), we're going to be doing an intensive 4 hour workshop to get you going with Titanium!
Bring your laptop! Learn from 3 experienced Appcelerator Titanium developers who will help you work through hands-on labs and provide one-on-one expertise .

This is a 1/2 day workshop specifically designed to get you up and running with Titanium and build feature-rich applications! We'll install the latest Titanium Developer and iOS SDK - then create a project in Titanium Developer and run it in the simulator to verify your setup. Basic JavaScript experience is necessary for this session; please complete a basic JavaScript course or book before attending.

This is a 1/2 day workshop intended to teach you the basics of Titanium. We'll work on several exercises as you build up a complete, feature-rich, mobile application that you can deploy on either Android or iOS. Topics we'll cover in this workshop: * Titanium quickstart * Titanium architecture and build process * Titanium API's ** UI elements: Lists, Labels, Windows, Views, Buttons, etc ** Navigation ** Tabs ** Databases ** Network operations * How to manage app upgrades * Connecting to social media sites * Debugging Titanium Applications * Best Practices * Building maintainable code with platform specific plugins

There is ForgedUI (http://www.forgedui.com) which is $99.

Grant Smith is working on his Visual-IDE (http://visual-ide.com/) currently in beta but he is currently on holiday.

There is a visual GUI designer out there by a third party. I can't remember the name however. Appcelerator does not provide this.

Yesterday's workshop was great- good mix of labs and presentation!! The one surprising thing though - Does the IDE not support drag and drop to lay out buttons and labels and such? To position them manually is laborious. Is there any tool to speed up this part of the development cycle?

Interesting, fun & challenging. Great speakers and appreciated the layout with the short intros for each of the lab exercises which we can also look through offline (along with KitchenSink!)

FYI with latest XCode (4.3) installed, i downloaded latest TitaniumStudio (2.0.1) and everything works perfectly.

Ah OK. You will need to install the Android SDK, and follow the instructions on the titanium wiki to get the right Android API's installed.

I think XCode is Apple only, right? Is same true for IOS SDK (or can we install it for windows version of titanium studio)?

Ozgur, I had one of our devs go through this exercise earlier today. We'll live dangerously - just install the latest Titanium Studio and Titanium SDK. The latest SDK requires a newer iOS SDK, FYI. Ping back here if you still have issues.

    Can someone give the links?
I find the most recent versions, not the old ones when I search.
    Thanks,

I would suggest installing XCode 4.2 and Titanium SDK 1.8.2 rather than the new Titanium SDK 2.0.1. I shouldn't really matter for this lab, but I have not tested the lab materials against the new SDK since it just came out last nite.

I would like to know if there will be some internet access to contact others in office in case if it is needed.

Hello, we'll be sending out instructions for getting prepared for the workshop tomorrow. If you wish to get a head start: the gist of the instructions are to install Titanium Studio, install either 1) the iOS SDK from Apple 2) Install the Android SDK with Android level 10.
    cheers

Do we need to download Titanium and set up our machines before the workshop session? If so, could you provide the details? Thx

We won't be recording this session unfortunately. Ask your manager to let you attend, the training is free, so he can't argue with that :)

Yikes - middle of a workday! Any chance this could be recorded (or at least have the materials posted)? Obviously preferred a later time (after work) and/or weekend, but.. :-)
