Hardware accelerated HTML5 Canvas has arrived! Recent releases of Chrome, iOS5, and Apple's Safari on Lion all have hardware accelerated Canvas, and it makes a huge difference in performance.
Hardware accelerated Canvas makes it possible to implement full-featured video games that run smoothly, not only in desktop browsers, but also on tablets.
In this talk, you will see how to implement a sidescroller video game (ala Mario Bros.), complete with scrolling background, parallax, sprites, collision detection and explosions, that runs at a rock solid 60 frames/second... on an iPad.
About the speaker:

David Geary is the author of Core HTML5 Canvas, and is the co-founder of the Denver HTML5 meetup group. David is a prolific and passionate author and speaker, and is a 3-time JavaOne Rock Star.
We are looking for an amazing dev for Maintainables. Talk to me (tall guy with blue pullover) if you would be interested in full-time, part-time, or moonlighting on mobile HTML5.

we'd be happy to host this meetup at our game studio in Inman Park. There is a huge projection screen and plenty of room. Here is a pic from the nodejs meetup we hosted last week. http://www.meetup.com/Atlanta-N...![]()

I notice this event has no location.
I work with VersionOne.com, and we have a good location at Glen Iris and North Avenue.
Here are pictures from a previous event: http://www.meetup.com/AtlAltDot...![]()
We had 30 people in the audience, but we have another side to the office that could seat another 30 to 40, and display the video on GoToMeeting live to the other room.
In any case, if you're interested, I can show you the space.
