What we’re about
If you are excited by science - but not necessarily a science professional - and you live in the Atlanta area, then the Atlanta Science Tavern is the meetup for you.
Our program is centered on a fourth Thursday of the month meeting at a tavern or brewery, which features a speaker - typically a scientist from a nearby university or research center - who presents their work to a smart general audience of science enthusiasts. We also host occasional presentations as part of our ongoing Young Researchers Series, which features talks by graduate students and postdocs.
In addition, we organize social outings and field trips that provide opportunities for our members to experience science as it expresses itself in the community at large. Public lectures at local universities, are a mainstay of our meetup calendar.
See you at the Tavern!
Cheers,
- The Science for Georgia team
Note:
- Unapproved soliciting of any kind is not allowed at our events.
- We expect adherence to all health & safety guidelines of venues and authorities.

Sunday Nov 9th, we will be back down at South River Art Studios for the Rescheduled mopeds course. Still got two mopeds in pieces, so come look and learn! We will cover even more than last time!
Survival and sustainability go hand in hand. Not everyone can ride a bike everywhere and gas is getting more expensive and shortages are always possible. But Mopeds (really motor scooters) get around 100 miles per gallon! You can get a moped for cheap and getting a moped is a great way to learn about engines and gain useful knowledge for things like generators and lawnmowers and tractors and motorcycles and other alternative vehicles. And you can get a moped cheap. I recently got 3 mopeds for $200 and I’m going to bring you all along with the process of inspecting them, diagnosing problems, and diving in to fix them! Come on by its gonna be fun!
Please wear warm clothes, we will be outside with the mopeds quite a bit.
