Dust off your your thinking caps, the Holiday Science Trivia Challenge is this Saturday!
This third installment of our very popular science-only team trivia competition will include questions from a wide range of topics in science and the history of science, but with an emphasis on evolution and chemistry this time around. Gather at Manuel’s Tavern around 7pm, order food and drink and get settled in. The game begins promptly at 7:30.
A $3 contribution is requested, but there is no charge for students. Please encourage students you know to attend!
There will be prizes of $50, $30 and $20 in Manuel’s Tavern gift certificates which winners can use on the spot.
You are welcome to compete with a ready-made team, but don’t worry if you don’t have one. Remember, this is a great opportunity to socialize and make new friends. Most teams are informal creations - find a seat, introduce yourself and you will be all set.
So that no one prevails by sheer numbers, we ask that you try to keep teams to 8 people or fewer.
There are 4 rounds of 5 questions each, the last question of each round being a bonus question. Unlike conventional team trivia, all questions have multiple parts of equal value and there is no wagering of points. One part of each question is intended to be straightforward. The others can be stumpers. The idea is to give every team a chance to participate in each question, while allowing some teams to distinguish themselves. Here’s the slideshow presentation of our last Trivia Challenge for your reference.
Don MacGregor, our Science Trivia Challenge music impresario, will be co-hosting again, and Gina Colaianni returns as our scorer-in-chief for the 3rd time running. Let me know by reply if you might be available to help with scoring. It makes things go a lot faster having a few people working the score sheets.
