Thanks, km and Dick - I'm interested whether your durability /fragility comments are directed mainly at any particular parts, like the snap-tabs? - or at the casings themselves?
And there would not be a teen factor if we were to get such cases, so given that, do you see the durability as OK or not impressive? Appreciate your insights.

Thx for the suggestion, not aware of that - will look into it.

When closed completely, it makes your Mac look like a book. Leather bound, gold leaf, etc., it really looks like a book!

We are here (Gail and I) despite the extreme weather. Happy El Azteca.

We should have propped up an iPad on the table and put Todd on FaceTime.

Excellent! Chris Waltrip had the beta of Yosemite so we could play with it!

Stuck at work - I regret that I cannot attend tonight. I was looking forward to it. On top of that there is a blinding thunderstorm raging right now. Time to unplug all Apple gear.

No particular weak spots. You just have to be careful removing the case so as not to crack the plastic. The tabs have never created a problem. If he puts it on and leaves it alone, it should be fine - unless he drops the laptop on the floor, in which case all bets are off.

Re Speck's; I've used them on all my MBPs to keep the cases from scratching They are quite good at that, but a bit fragile and add weight to the laptop. They don't add any functionality to the computer.

I have them on my kids' MBP. The Speck's are good for avoiding scratches, etc. they are not indestructible, though. Let's just say, "Trial by Teenager."

AMUGgers - does anyone have experience up or down with the colorful translucent "Speck" case for MacBooks and Airs?
Groupon has them for $20 down from $50 - think they're hard plastic snap-ons, and I wonder about durability of little snap-tabs, adequacy of heat slots, etc.
They seem similar to the InCase snap-ons (Groupon $15), which appear to have fewer, and slightly darker, colors. Any thoughts?

Good venue. Good food and not as noisy as MM. Right next to Macquarium. They let me park there when we meet next door. Payback time.

On the other hand, if the notification was posted on the meet up website, then I did not get it.

The meetup messaging software is screwy. If I accidentally hit the return key with my little finger, it instantly transmits whatever I had written to that point (at least for replies) and denies me the opportunity to edit and re-think what I had written. To conclude, I do not use Facebook. I do not trust Zuckerberg with my personal information and I choose to deny him access to that. Hence, if the meeting that was posted weeks ago was posted on Facebook, I would not have gotten it. This may explain the confusion.

Hmmm, must have missed the email. I'll be in Savannah. D

I suspect a miscommunication here: the regular AMUG monthly meeting is on the third Tuesday of the month, i.e., tomorrow. There was a joint meeting with the PC group on the 14th, but that was not billed as a substitute of the regular AMUG meeting, although in hindsight that appears to have been the intent of certain persons in control. OF course, some of us have enough sense not be be on
