Hi movie fans
My name is Annetta and I am the organiser of the The Auckland Movie Fans Meetup Group with the help of assistant organisers and event hosts who can also schedule meetups. You can also suggest meetups and organise your own movie outings!
The group is about using our love of movies to meet new people, make new friends, see movies we possibly wouldn't see normally and have a good time whilst doing it
Open to suggestions
Dying to see a film but it hasn’t been posted? You can:
- Use the schedule a meetup* button which brings up fields to fill out.". Once you have scheduled a meetup you are the event "host".
* The help section provides more details about how meetup.com works http://help.meetup.co...
- Send an email* to me through the Meetup movie site – one of the assistant organisers or me will organise if we are willing and able!
* To send a message to a member click on their hyperlinked name to bring up their profile page and look for the "message" option with the speech bubble next to it.
It would help if you give us an idea of when you are available so we can consider these details when making the arrangements.
You can also use the Discussions>Message Boards feature. This is available from the main menu on the home page. You can use these message boards to organise car pooling to events, discuss future events, propose new events in fact whatever you like as long as you play nicely together. Maybe you want to be spontaneous and go to a movie the same day and want to see if anyone else is available?
Basically, there's lots of options and features available through the meetup.com site. The More the Merrier
You may not be aware of this but when you RSVP you can also include guests - just use the field provided in the RSVP window to tell us how many extra people you intend to bring so the organiser can factor this into seat bookings, if necessary. Bring your friends – they’re welcome! Many hands make light work
I tend to post films for the Rialto (Newmarket) and Academy (CBD) theatres – particularly the (many and frequent!) film festivals. It would be really good to have more assistant organisers and event hosts to create more diversity and choice for members – e.g. more mainstream movies and at a variety of locations (i.e. include Western, Eastern and Southern suburbs).
The idea is that more postings from more willing participants will generate regular outings for members to choose from and help share the load, as there are only so many films I can see in a month!
Let me know if you are interested in becoming an event host. All you have to do is make a post when you want to see a film, and do the meet and greet at the specified meet up time and place – it’s easy!Advance bookings
Most of the time, if it is allocated seating, advance bookings are a good idea. There have been instances where a popular film has been sold out or only lousy seats were left so it is definitely worthwhile to secure our seats and make sure we get good ones!
Oh and if you aren't interested in seeing a particular movie that gets posted you don't have to RSVP No (unless you want to add a comment like, "Bummer I can't make it on this day". It's more important for organisers to know when you are able to come to a movie or if you change your mind later and can't come.
As at July 2013 Rialto and Event cinemas have now changed their online booking system to force pre-payment so unfortunately we no longer have the option of reserving seats and paying for them 30 minutes prior to the screening as we used to do. This means that we can either take a gamble and not make any booking at all and turn up on the day to try and get seats together; OR I can pre-purchase a ticket online for myself and tell you my seat number so you can buy your ticket in advance and try to get a seat nearby.
Not ideal! If you want to make a complaint about the inflexibility of their online system for groups, the Rialto email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. Event cinemas have an online customer service module: http://www.eventcinem...
.How much do movie tickets cost?
Adult tickets are roughly $17 - special formats like 3D or IMAX cost more. You need to visit the cinema's websites for the list of rates, eg, http://www.rialto.co....I don't know how to use the meetup.com site
There is help information available (see link at top of page labelled "Help" or http://www.meetup.com...

See you at the movies!
